A New Year!

It is hard to believe that 2010 is almost over.  It seems like it just flew by.  It was a busy year in the Shaw house!  There was so much fun stuff going on and always something to look forward to.  Some highlights include Susan coming out West last July, moving into the condo in August, going to Montreal and also getting to meet little Thomas in October, bringing Lady home in November and finally, Susan and her family moving to Alberta in December!!  I don't think that 2011 will be able to measure up to that kind of constant excitement.  It always amazes me how there are periods of our life where everything seems to switch up all at once and other times where everything is just sooooo quiet and unchanged.  As much as last year was so much fun, I am fine with the thought of a quieter year enjoying the beauty of our "slough", getting to spend more time with Susan and her family and watching Lady grow into a happy and well balanced pup who just might even eventually get totally accepted into the pack. (Some manners may help in this regard.)

Hope you all have fun plans for tonight.  We always stay home on New Year's Eve.  This year Susan and her family are coming over for Chinese food and we might watch a movie or play board games.  The County always puts on fireworks and we will have a perfect sky view from our living room window.  Yay!!!

I wish you all a wonderful New Year with much happiness and lots of time for creating!!

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

Top 10 in 2010

I decided to jump on board this year with a review of my favourite LO's.  It was really fun to look back on my creations of the past year, not only to see how my work has changed but mostly to relive the memories of the photographs.  I think we sometimes forget that this is the main reason we scrap.  I do tend to get caught up in the design aspect, not to mention the fun of playing with new products.

So here they are in no particular order.

This is always the time of year that I tend to reflect and make a few goals.  Not saying that I actually accomplish said goals ;) ......... but, I do believe that it is good to have goals, a planned path.  So this is what has been rattling around my head.

- I am wanting to decrease the amount of LO's that I do.  Yes, decrease.  I have been on a major scrappy tangent for the past two years and have basically abandoned some of my other hobbies, namely, knitting, reading, cross-stitching and baking cookies.  The cross-stitching may still be off the table due to decreased eyesight and I really should not bake too many cookies anyway as healthy eating is yet another one of my goals.  But hey, don't we all say that every new year and then by about January 6th we are back to our old ways! LOL  Anyway, I really do want to do more knitting and reading. :)  I am also running out of space to house all these albums!  How many albums will I have by the time I am a senior?  Will my house look like one of those houses on "Hoarders"?

- I want to make all of this year's cards.  No store bought and no more buying BG card making kits.  I plan on making cards for all the celebrations, Valentines, Easter, Halloween etc.

- I want to get into making more mini albums with the idea of making some for gifts. Maybe I will try my hand at journals too.

- I also want to do less sketch challenges and design more of my own LO's.  Having said this, I am planning on trying out for the next DT at The Scrappiest.  I LOVE Liz's sketches and the fun vibe of Liz's blog is for me what scrapping is all about.  I soooo want to be on that DT!!! :)

- My ongoing goal is to use up the stash and stop buying so much new stuff.  I am never successful in this goal and shouldn't even voice it.  If Susan is reading this she is probably rolling on the floor in a fit of laughter! ;)  Having voiced this goal, I did receive a wonderful gift card to my favourite LSS from a certain sister of mine for Christmas!!  Circa 1934 when are you coming to a LSS near me????? I NEED you!!!

So, wish me luck with these plans as I'll need it!  LOL  It will be fun to look back on this post next year and see how little  I have accomplished but.... hey, it's good to have goals, right????  ;)  I guess that my main goal this year should be to just have fun scrapping.  The goal to have a portion of the day that I just escape into a solitary creative mode of pure happiness.  The goal to create something that will preserve a memory of the simple everyday joys.  I know that I did accomplish this as a goal for 2010. :)

Design Dollies Sketch

The Design Dollies have a new sketch up today.

Here is my take using another great photo of Thomas!  I used the new MME "Fine and Dandy" line.  Just loving this fun colour palette and that cute owl paper!  I opted for using only one photo in the LO and replaced the top photo element with a journaling sheet.  I'm still loving the banner craze!! hee hee

With the new year soon approaching,  I wonder what the newest scrappy trends will be for 2011.  Last year at this time, all we heard about was banners and hand made embellishments.  I haven't heard of any major trends so far.  Have any of you?  I'd love to know if there is anything totally fabby in store for us all.

Well, tomorrow will be a busy day getting ready for Santa!  I am having 12 for Christmas dinner so we will begin some preparations as to have more time to enjoy company on Christmas day.  I do have to admit that I have been quite lazy this year and have not done a lick of baking.  I do however have two pies ordered at my favourite pie shop, Fife n' Deckel!  Cherry and Coconut Cream!!!  Yummy!! :)  I have also set aside some time tomorrow to look for Christmas sweaters for the pups.  Wish me luck as I may have left this too late in the season.  ;)

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas with family and friends!!

I finally got a chance to use my Cosmo Cricket "Material Girl" line!  It was the perfect line for these pictures of me and Susan knitting.  I love the vintage vibe to these and the chipboard collection is so cute!!  What is even better is that most of this stash came out of the bargain bin!!  Gotta love a scrappy deal. :)

Here is this week's sketch over at Sketch Inspiration!  Lots of layers in this one and I love that it works for two 4"x6" pictures.

Speaking of Cosmo Cricket paper have you taken a look at this!  Circa 1934!!  I LOVE it!!  Now I just have to find some. Grrrrr!!!

I'll leave you with a festive Christmas image!!

A Few More of Lady

Okay, I think I am done scrapping Lady now.  Well..... for a bit anyway. ;)  I don't want to look like a "really" crazy dog lady! LOL

Lady is an interesting subject to scrap.  I am the first to admit that Lady isn't much of a looker.  Having said that, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and as her "mother", I have to say that to me she is beautiful. :)  When I see a photo of her, I don't have a sudden revelation of a paper line that would just be perfect for this beautiful photo. ;)  With Gus and Mag being white, they match everything!!!  So I do my best to pick some lovely papers that will help boost the appearance of lovely Lady.  Pretty papers help!  In real life, I have decided that pink is her colour and when I put on her very fashionable pink winter coat, she looks terrific. Draws the eye away from her face I think. ;) I will brainstorm with the groomer on some creative cutting to help her along too.  The little poofs on her legs help to draw the eye away from just how long those legs are.  Now if we can just do something with those crazy ears????? ;)

For this LO I picked up on the pink leash, and the gold and green in the pillow.  Got these fun papers for $0.20 in the sale bin last March.  I think they are "We are Memory Keepers". I also used some Pink Paislee and "Tinsel and Twig" here.  Fun to finally use my new snowflake punch!

I used last week's sketch from Creative Scrappers!  Fun, fun, fun!!

Here is my girl hanging out under the Christmas tree.  When I saw this photo I declared that she looked really good in it.  The family laughed!! I guess it is just a mother's love. :)  I used some fun "Tinsel & Twig" on this as well as a shaped sheet from the Pink Paislee Christmas line in 2008.  I finally put some naked chipboard on a LO.  Piradee does it all the time and I love the look, especially with the contrast of the shiny pearl.

Here is the sketch I used by Julie Bonner.

Wishing you all a wonderful Sunday!!

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen

Some More Fancy Pants

Just a quick post.  Yesterday was a totally scrappy day and I am proud to say that I pretty much consumed my "Happy Together" stash!

One more of Lady!  I wanted to document how her life was not so great to begin with but she is cherished and loved now.  She has the life of a princess. :)

Found this new sketch on Julie Bonner's blog.  Her talent always amazes me!

This LO was a super quick one.  I guess there isn't much room left to create much when you put three 4"x6" photos on the page, but these photos just begged to be scrapped together.  Auntie Carolyn took these of Thomas and they are a few of my faves of him. :) I made these circular embellishments by punching a 2" circle from a large floral patterned paper.  I then punched a 1" circle with my new Martha punch.  I love the zigzag shape of this punch.  I then finished off with a button.  The repeated embellishment helped to continue the simple feeling of this LO.

I used this sketch by Susan Stringfellow.  I really like her multi-pic sketches and hope to use more in the future.

Hope you are all having a great weekend and are getting ready for the big day!  I'll leave you with a Christmassy vintage image. :)

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

This and That and Blah Blah Blah......

Lots to share today.  Nothing too exciting, just catching up on my scrappy world.  Susan and her family are at their new place now, unpacking.  The moving van arrived today and it must feel great for them to see all their stuff once again and start settling in.  We have had a great time together as they stayed with us waiting.  Here are some photos from the last week.

Our Christmas tree all set up and waiting for Santa.

Lady playing with her stuffies.  A major stuffy fan she is.  The other day we counted 7 that she had tucked away in her kennel.  She has her own little world going on in there.  Matt says that she is a hoarder and needs an intervention on that show!  LOL

My handsome nephew, Matthew.  Such a sweet fellow who I love to share tea and a sweet with!

Me teaching Susan how to knit mittens.  She completed her pair in about one day and was a very easy student!  We actually knit our own pair but at the same time.  It was so easy to be able to show each step as we went along.   A fun project for a chilly Alberta weekend and what a feeling of accomplishment to know that you never have to buy store bought mittens again! :)

Now onto some scrappy stuff!  Yesterday, I had some more fun playing with my Pink Paislee "Father Christmas" line.  Sweet Mo snoozing on the sofa!  I am loving the trading cards of Santa in this line.  The vintage bingo marker and Graphic 45 chipboard buttons seemed  to be the perfect embellishment for this vintage feel.  Just a simple linear design using no sketch.  Just shifting things around the page until they looked good. ;)

Today I finally scrapped a photo of "Lady"!  Diane says that she looks like a "Joan" so she is sometimes referred to as such!  hee hee

I LOVE this Fancy Pants line called "Happy Together"  I'm usually more of an earth tone palette scrapper but.... lately I just can't get enough of the colour blue!  Maybe it is the time of year and the winter skies that are putting me in this "blue mood".  LOL When I saw the "you {plus} me {equals} happy", I knew I wanted to scrap this photo.

I used this week's sketch at The Scrappiest.  This sketch is soooo original.  I love it when I find a sketch that is just so different from the norm.  Loved the laced up look and divided background!  Liz is such a talented sketch designer!!

Lastly, I have set up a bit of a scrapping challenge for myself for 2011.  I figure it is good to have goals and hope that this goes better than last year's Project 365 which I quit at week 27. :(

I finally found myself a copy of this pure numminess!!!!

I have decided to do one challenge a week.  I will not go in order but I figure I can mix up the scrappy vibe by adding these challenges to whatever sketch or LO I am working on.  Elizabeth's work is amazing and I love looking at her family photos!!!  You can check out her blog here for some amazing inspiration and just good reading too!!!

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

Christmas Goat

Yesterday we had a record snowfall!   Between 12.4 to 30 cm depending on your exact location.   Yay!!  A great day to stay in and scrap!!!  I finally cut into my line of Pink Paislee "Father Christmas" papers.  A very yummy line indeed.  While picking up this stash at my LSS, the ladies had done a class the evening before where they mixed in some papers from "Tinsel and Twig" and one of the Kaiser lines.  They had all these papers together on a table and were gracious enough to let me buy this mix from their project table! :)  Some people just have the best eye for mixing up the manufacture lines.

I took this photo last year out at the dog kennel where we board the pups while we are away on vacation.  I just love this "Christmas goat"!!  I love the grid look of the frosty fence!

The sketch I used is #154 from Sketch Inspiration.  I love me a sketch with lots of layers. ;)

Hope everyone is almost ready for Santa!  Hard to believe it will soon be upon us.  I'll leave you with a few of my most recent Christmas photos.

My favourite cat sending all my readers a holiday greeting! (hee hee)

My best Christmas gift laying under the tree!  I sure love this little "Lady".  She brightens my day! :)

Nautical but Nice!

I'm playing with the Design Dollies again today.  Here is a super fun challenge.... nautical!  Here is my take.

I didn't have any water themed pictures or boat or pirate type scrappy goods, so I googled the word nautical  and studied images.  I decided to use a nautical colour theme of red, white, blue and a touch of yellow.  I used clean lines, so no fancy border punches for this one! ;)  The stars helped with the theme as well as the banner. I used the jute as it reminded me of rope.  I wanted to use a sketch that had a circular element to represent a life saver.  Here is my sketch that I created to use.

It was a really fun challenge!  Play along for the monthly prize if you have some extra time during this busy time of year.  I have not been scrapping much these days.  I am enjoying the company of my sister Susan and her family.  They have arrived from Quebec and are just waiting for the moving van to make it's way across this vast land of ours.  Maybe tomorrow????  It all depends on how many snow storms there were along the way.

I'll leave you with this seasonal vintage image! :)  Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

Just wanted to let you all know what is going on at the Pink Paislee blog this week.  Not only are they doing a 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway, they are giving away free digital downloads each day!  This is the trading card that they had up today.

You may want to pop over and comment on some posts and get yourself some cute downloads.  One day it was images to make photo Christmas cards with.

Hope everyone is enjoying this busy time of year getting ready for Christmas as well as getting some scrapping time in!

Playing With Dollies...

Design Dollies that is!!!  I am thrilled to be Guest Designer this month!  The first challenge is up and it is a colour challenge!  The colours are, celery green, sky blue, red and white.  I love a colour challenge because it makes me go through the stash and unleash some forgotten treasure.  It gets me mixing things that I would never have thought of mixing, without the challenge!  Here is my take.

I wanted to use white as my background so it really let the other colours pop.  I also find that I tend to use B&W photos in colour challenges.  It allows the colours to shine as well as the fact that it is not always easy to find a photo to match every colour palette.  I will forever be a B&W photo fan!!  They are a timeless and classic look!

I created my own sketch to use for this challenge.  I am trying to use a few more of my own sketch ideas these days.  However, having said that, I sure do love a good sketch challenge!

If you are up for a great colour challenge with a lovely palette, head on over to Design Dollies!  You just may win yourself a wonderful prize this month!!

I have to leave you with a greeting from Gus and Maggie!  Yes, more silly Santa hats!  hee hee

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

Feeling Festive!

Hello bloggy friends!  Not much scrappy going on around here.  I have been busy getting some Christmas stuff done.  Shopping is done, cards have been sent out, out of province gifts have been mailed and now I am on to wrapping!  I always think I like wrapping gifts.  I LOVE buying wrapping paper!! Must be the paper thing again. ;)  I love to make tags out of last year's Christmas cards.  But..... when it comes down to the actual wrapping I get bored really quickly and find excuses to leave the wrapping area and find something else to do.  Today I even caught up on my ironing!!!  Now that is sad.

Tomorrow may be tree trimming time!  Always a challenge to try to break the least amount of ornaments and then there is the re-arranging of furniture!!  Yeah..... maybe we will wait until Sunday. ;)

I will leave you all with my best wishes for a fun filled weekend and..... this updated version of a recent photo Lady!  Now I'm off to find photos of Gus and Maggie to put silly Santa hats on!  LOL

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

This LO is for this week's challenge at Design Dollies.  The challenge is to use at least 5 layers in your creation.  An easy challenge for me because I love the look of layering!  I think it adds dimension and interest to a LO, not to mention the chance to show off a variety of coordinated patterns!

This one is for the album that I am making for my friend!  I have already given her the album and each time I make a new LO of her sweet little boy, I give it to her to add to it. I just love this photo of him.  He is growing so fast and now looks like such a "little boy".  She has a new little one on the way, so soon I will be starting a second album! :)

I used my Paper Poppy kit for this one.  A mix of Bella Blvd. and Pink Paislee.  No sketch for this one, just let the products guide me.

I'll leave you with my latest photo of Lady.  I haven't been taking many photos lately as my camera is in the shop yet again. :(  I went for the month of October without it and now it won't be back until after Christmas.  I am stuck using Robert's scary monstrosity of a camera.  Too complicated for my liking even in "auto" mode! LOL  Anyway, Lady is doing terrific.  She is settling well into our home life.  She now realizes that morning bed cuddling and walks are two of the best times of the day!  She has also decided to invite Rob into her life after three weeks!  It took her a while to decide that he really is a good guy.  Now we have to work on getting her to not run away each time Lisa says hello to her.  Baby steps for this little one.

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)
